Lisa Marie Presley died from a cardiac arrest - the importance of hereditary testing

Following the death of Lisa Marie Presley, RTL News published an article on the 16 January concerning hereditary heart disease, something we as Medisol want to give attention to in an attempt to raise awareness regarding heart disease, CPR and the use of AEDs.
Lisa Marie Presley (54), singer and daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, died from a cardiac arrest at a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday 12 January 2023. Earlier that day she was taken to the hospital after her ex-husband, Danny Keough, found her at home in a critical condition. According to US site TMZ, he reportedly tried to resuscitate her before emergency services arrived and her heart was said to have been beating again briefly before she was taken to hospital.
Hereditary heart disease: get tested!
Not only Lisa Marie, but also her father Elvis and his parents died from a cardiac arrest at a young age. It is unknown to the family whether this was due to a hereditary defect, nevertheless in such cases many experts in the field of heart disease advise having research done, to find out whether there is a predisposition to heart disease. This is because there are several treatments that can be applied, such as a healthier lifestyle and medication. In doing so, you may be able to reduce the risk of heart disease. If you suspect a hereditary predisposition to cardiovascular disease it would be advisable to discuss this with your GP.
The importance of an AED
With the death of a celebrity due to cardiac arrest, we are again reminded of the facts: the importance of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) is very high! This is because even if you are not predisposed to heart disease, you can be struck by a cardiac arrest at any time, it this happens it is crucial to initiate CPR as soon as possible and administer an electric shock to the heart if necessary.
